"Pinturas Rupestres Prehistóricas en la Patagonia: Estudio In Situ mediante Espectroscopía Raman"
Dr. Luc Moens (*)
Department of Chemistry - Ghent University, Belgium
RESUMEN: Raman spectroscopy is successfully applied to non-invasive and non-destructive analysis of art works, being the use of portable instruments, a particular advantage of this method. In this talk, we will show the first use of portable Raman instrumentation for the on-site study of prehistoric rock art paintings in Patagonia. This allowed us not only to identify the pigments used, but also to keep the preservation state of these magnificent rock paintings found in different provinces under a variety of environmental conditions. Given the need for additional information on the composition of superimposed layers, a lightweight and compact configuration of fibre-optics micro- Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) was set up, giving the opportunity to develop a pioneering Raman probe head that was tested under laboratory conditions.
