Abstract
In this contribution we study the dynamics of a supercooled liquid near the mode coupling
transition temperature. We performed long molecular dynamics simulations for a binary Lennard Jones
mixture at different temperatures and obtain by periodic quenches the Inherent Structures (IS)
underlying instantaneous configurations of the system. We define a correlation function that gives
the probability that after a given time the system is found "over" the same IS. These correlation
functions help us to show that as the temperature is lowered the system get confined in a kind of
"metabasins" for an increasing time that may be related with the relaxation time typical of the
beta-relaxation in these systems.
