Abstract
We synthesized several manganese oxide based compounds as nanoparticles assembled into hollow nanostructure by wetting plastic templates. A two stage thermal process was performed to obtain La0.80Sr0.20MnO3 and La0.66Sr0.33MnO3, the typical nanoparticle diameter being around 20 nm. Self standing tubes can be obtained with different selectable external diameter ranging from 100 up to 800 nm. These compounds are envisaged for their use as cathodes in solid oxide fuel cell working at the intermediate temperature range due to their unique catalytic features. We characterize the microstructure of the obtained material, and show the feasibility to deposit them on top of ytria stabilized zirconia substrates. Strategies to further increase the specific area of the cathode are briefly discussed.
